for sale / wanted

Post by silvercarpboy on Fri Aug 17, 2012 3:50 pm

Would it be possible to reduce the amount of posts so we can use this part of the forum.

Plenty of places where you can sell stuff. That is not the prime aim of the forum, merely a tool for regular users to use. Try free ads mate!

seems fair enough to me - plus you now have peoples 'real name'

maybe go at step further and make sure that sellers provide a UK address and phone number before 'verification'?

similar system is used on many forums that allow members to sell 'high value' goods esp audio visual/camera gear?

but lets be honest no system is 100% safe but at least measures can be taken to try as far as possible to reduce the risk to forum members?

the next comment will no doubt 'upset' a few and bring down howls of derision - but here goes!

as the forum is largely about Macmillan would it be unreasonable to expect sellers to make say a 5% contribution to said charity?

Sounds a good idea Nick, but im not sure if there would be any legal implications.

thanks Allan

carp forum seem to manage it without a problem - but i'm not putting them up as a 'standard' upon which to base a forum Very Happy

but maybe have a look at avforums?

just a few suggestions

seems a shame to me that when you've got 1000's of posts to your name over on cemex that you have to start again from scratch on here.

i'd suggest that what happens/happened on Cemex stays on Cemex?

and 100 sensible posts may well help to 'kick start' this forum

will said forum be 'invisible' to members who have not met the 'requirements'?

otherwise buyers will just be able to pm members and conduct trades?

Whats wrong with that? is there status in many posts? you will always be remembered by your last post, not the first of 10,000.

there again it could be 10,000 posts of drivel.

also on some web sites the old, many posts guys, 10,000, seem to form an "inner circle" with more "lee way" than new posters.

look at it this way, a fresh start, new ideas, and no old boys network.

and this WEB SITE is for an excellent cause, not ego.

i don't post drivel and i'm nowhere near 10,000 posts on cemex and nothing to do with ego. i actualy have posted about 3,800 times on cemex in nearly 9 years so it's likely to take a few months to reach 100 on here. fact is one of the reasons this place has come in to being is the likely demise (soon) of cemex. i've got quite a bit of stuff to clear out but i'm not going to put it on cemex when it might disappear any day. yes this is a charity and personally i'd be in favour of a small fee to post for sale ads with the proceeds going to the charity. i just feel it's a bit of a shame to be a long standing trusted member on the other place but that now counts for nothing.

I had over 4500 posts on Cemex, But thats a great idea, maybe a £1 charge to put an add on here and it goes to stoney and friends charity.
Or a £10 subscription to the sale section, may also help reduce scammers.

or just wait till you get 100 posts, as mentioned there are other places to sell, bit of a downer, but i would imagain it reflects the persons suggestion over on Cemex.

100 posts was suggested on Cemex !!! it has been adsopted on here,

i would of had 50...... a fee, no, a great cause ,,, but if there was a fee
i would not do it,,, and have sold a lot and bought a lot, NEVER a problem.

i posted 13k on cemex maybe a bit of dross but then again i have met plenty of people mostly good and like to have a laugh with them, so 100 will take a while but thats life
