Side Cutters

Post by Tigger on Wed Apr 24, 2013 9:03 am

Caught ten pike on Monday ranging from 1/4 pound jack up to high singles and had to use my cutters on five of them to cut the hooks from the landing net. Without the cutters two of them would never have been released as they spun round like a Crocodile.

Changed to using a single treble (Owner size 6) yesterday and landed 7 (lost one at the net) without having any catch in the mesh, all lip hooked.

AND I landed my first twenty cheers

Quite small, about 8mm, but the hook get caught in the weave. I will try and stick with the one large treble from now on, they are easier to unhook even if the odd fish unhooks itself.

Try using a large meshed knotless landing net. They are much better because of the large knotless mesh the trebles don't get caught in the mesh.

I will give it a try.

Landed another 20 (two swims away from my first, so possibly the same one) I have now decided I don't want to catch a thirty.

Still using a single treble with snagging the net, landed 7 lost 2 one of which was in the net when it threw the hook and then got out.
