BIG PIT REELS

Post by HAPPYANGLERALEX on Wed Jan 09, 2013 12:02 am

Hi,

I decided to get my first big pit carp reel, for a try out to improve my casting distance, nothing too expensive.

Settled on a DAIWA WINDCAST S 5000, at the lowest price on web, £60 [local angling shops £20 more expensive. oh the joys of internet shopping.]

It arrived and I have had a couple sessions with it, different to my 3 SHIMANO 8000B GTE AERO'S more the distance, big fish reel, looks the part, seems ok.

Checked out the box it came in and the web,

DAIWA SOLD IN UK.
MADE IN VIETNAM
DISTRIBUTED BY DAIWA TOKYO, JAPAN.
SOLD ON EBAY BY A TAIWANESE FISHING COMPANY. [Daiwa WINDCAST 5000 Surf Fishing Reel+ Free Spool £107] cheapest in UK. £60
Punch line, like a lot of big pit reels, its sold in other countries as a "SURF REEL" IE sea. [so that's what the S stands for.]

Makes you wonder about expensive carbon blanks from Japan and other stuff.

ps, we/they had a war with Vietnam millions dead and injured,
we had a war with Japan, millions dead and injured,
we may have a war over Taiwan, millions dead and injured.

Funny old world, why doesn't everybody just chill out and go fishing

All our big pit reals evolved from large spinning reels or beach casting reels and most are still marketed as such around the world. On the box of my Basias it says spinning reel.
