Alas I did not land it, just checked out the report, as on other web sites, but enjoyed your joke Very Happy

personally I think there should be two records ie.

RIVER.
LAKE.

As, "trapped in a lake", carp can become like pets, artificially pumped up with feed, but river carp are free to roam for many miles and more skill is needed to find and land them.

There has got to be some huge carp in the Thames.

the Thames will one day produce a massive natural carp, not a pond pet, "what swims beneath", so good luck to the guys who put their time in as pioneers for Thames carp.

as they are being landed from canary wharf up to the narrow quiet part the Thames is a underestimated carp venue.

real carp real carping.

ps. I still fish lakes but will have the Thames on my list for next year, in the eton/windsor foot bridge area.

the thames is just like a massive lake. just a very inconvenient shape. the fish are still "trapped" as you put it.

once a lake gets over say a few hundred acres you cant really call them pets can you?! you hear of fish going missing in realatively small lakes for a good few years.

and there kind of is a separate record for river fish for people in the know. i do agree though that the rivers are some the last great pioneering opportunities in this country.

HI, thames like a lake, got to disagree, the thames is 215 miles from start to finish, open at one end, and carp are free to swim many miles of it.

why are lake carp well known caught many times and named, but thames carp are not?

I fish for carp in lakes but accept that the carp in the lakes are well known, and after many years of feeding they are habit forming, whereas thames and other river carp, are a different type of carp and are much harder to find and catch.

plus in cold winter still water the carp will become dormant, and not feed, but in flowing water they will keep moving using energy and then need to feed.

anyway a 40lb carp lake or river is nice to catch, but a thames unknown at 40lb is the tops.

went carping today = zero-zilch-nuffin. water to cold carp dormant.
