Instead of using a 4lb lump hammer

Buy a cheap 14mm Masonry bit about 16" long and weld it to a T piece. It has the advantage over a lump hammer as the spade end will move aside stones when drilling in. You could do the same with a smaller bit (6mm?) for predrilling for tent pegs.

so how would this annoy other anglers?

surely it must somehow otherwise why move away from the lump hammer, which does a perfectly good job of it!

You could just use a battery hammer drill, that would upset the carpers. Underwater speakers and ultrasonic frequencies might be worth researching.

that would be good but im a bit worried that it might get the job done a bit quick.

although if it means my set up is 100% level every time than thats all that matters!
