Might got shot down for this but there have been times where " i can smell carp". Not sure quite what it is but sometimes i do get a feeling and sense somethings different in the air that i associate with carp. When i feel like this I just know i have to go fishing or if i am fishing, think that they are near! In Some of Chris Yates books he mentions the same sort of thing and i tend to agree with him on this.

its just your mind doing total recall ie something triggers off a past happy memory about carping, and it gives you the urge to go carping.

Its like a ex smoker seeing another person smoking and his mind recalls the urge.

lots of carpers, me included, get the sudden urge, to go carping as something triggers it off. Idea

years ago a carper claimed he could connect by mind thoughts with carp, ie. psychic communication.

chaps in white coats had a chat with him. affraid

Keeping my big mouth shut!

Post by Gary Bills on Thu Mar 27, 2014 9:20 am

On a little fished farm reservoir, in the autumn of 2012, I spotted a large common on the top and said to myself, rather too loudly, "look at the size of that!" Away it swirled...Until then, I had accepted that carp could not hear the human voice.

Why we can sometimes "smell" carp from the bank...

Post by Gary Bills on Tue Dec 08, 2015 3:39 pm

I once caught a strong whiff of carp, when lakeside, only to look out and see a decent common rolling on the top. The wind was in my face and, I suspect, the wind was blowing across the flanks of the carp and carrying the scent to me.
As for carp hearing human voices, I never believed it until I had that experience mentioned here...
