These Birds are doing my head in !!

Post by Bob on Mon Sep 10, 2012 9:52 am

I fish an estate lake, where the Swans, Coots, Tuftys are fed every day by the people in the Big House.

And they are a complete and utter nightmare when it comes to anything looking like food.

Last week I wound in the rods 3am and gave up having caught a complete set of Blighters ?

Any suggestions ?

The deepest part of the lake is only 5ft, the people in the house would not appreicate the birds disappearing, so the Laser Pen will have to be my last resort.

Thanks for your help.

I find dark baits can delay them finding them in some instances. Also not the best solution but if you wave a landing net high in the air the ones on my place xxxxxxxxxxx off if only for a short while. Be prepared for sore arms and looking a tad crazy though Very Happy

Jon,

I was using Black Baits and I waved my landing net at the swans, who came up the bank to see if I had any food for them ?

Complete nightmare !!

Good luck!

heavily feed another part of the lake and then fish singles no where near it.

May seem costly but no more costly than spodding and having all your spod mix eaten along with your hookbaits by birds.

And that would give anglers a great reputation wouldn't it No No

Bob as said try a laser pen not strait at them just a quick flash and they will dissapear.
Another option I use for the tufties is take a kilo bag of sweetcorn and put it in the lake 4 or 5 swims away, that usually keeps them away.

Big bucket of preped maize in the margins as far away from your spots as possible, keep it topped up as long as you are fishing. Keep an eye on it as the carp will find it as well Cool

If you're going to laser pen the swans, aim it at their backsides.
You'll find that they attempt to swim away from it and I find it keeps the ones on 'my' lake on edge enough to stop them feeding.
They're so daft that they quickly forget why they were in the area in the first place and tend to drift away.

Good advise, thanks for that.

Green laser pen works for me, 1000 ducks put on my lake for shooting, try not to put too much bait in til dark

I use a green laser pen it dont get rid of them just sends them away for while or away from your bait works well for me and while baiting up in morning or evening gulls hate it. And dont really dive for your bait

Inject currents with whiskey and feed it to them, it's an old poachers trick for pheasants.

As said single hookbaits and/or step boilie size up to 22mm+ and you will find the gulls will struggle to deal with them and they drop through the layers quicker with there being more weight to them
