They're ripping the bottom up....

Post by kathrynshubby on Sun Sep 09, 2012 9:51 pm

In front of you....head and shouldering everywhere....but despite trying everything, you can't get a pick up......

That was my situation at blue pool last week, never seen it look so carpy, the most frustrating session i've ever had. I reckon for 40% of the total time i was there (3 days) I had fish feeding heavily in front of me. I probably put a tad too much bait in, other that that I did little wrong (in my mind anyway). Started on low pop ups, worked through single bottom baits, half baits back to back, single tuttis.....

So....what would YOU have done to rescue a blank ?? (don't mention zigs....tried that Laughing )

First one to mention Cell gets a pasting

If it was over silt i'd whack a very short nylon hooklink, 5oz plus lead, tiny bait of some description and sky the cast so it'll all bury in next to what their ripping it up to munch on.

it wouldnt be particularly stealthy but if nothing else is doing the job its worth a crack!

Fish somewhere else? Can remember Tel writing about a similar situation on Tolpits once. He solved it by ignoring the bubbling and fishing hard spot in the edge, where there was no bubbling, but they would pick up bait...

somtimes when there on the natuarals it is imposible to get a pick up. its prob not ideal to keep recasting onto the spot though. if its close enough maybe free lined bread but i rarely have any of that! id just make a note of the spot and keep a bit of bait in, ready for next time...

I know you said not to mention zigs but...

Did you try a pop-up straight off the lead, 2 ft, 3ft, 4ft?

Did you try a critically balanced bait on a 3 ft - 4 ft hooklength?

Just thinking 'out loud'...

one problem many solutions, no two the same, sounds like a session from hell.

"head and shouldering everywhere" so they were top feeding? perhaps a hatch of some sort.
so just what were they up to? unless you could find out, you may of been doing what they did not want.

so back to basics, showing fish, on top, floating bait, ie bread/chum. if they go for that, do that.
perhaps it was a thermal/layer situation? and a slow sinking bait might have found the layer they were in.

anyway, "NEXT TIME"

if thats the blue pool I am glad its not on my list of places to fish, I avoid those type of waters [as I like a bit of a challenge with decent fish], and the type of carper it attracts, ie stella and weed, party and social, not my scene at all, nor many carpers.

remote lakes and decent carp with a challenge, and no clowns, now thats real carping. Very Happy

pretty sure that the blue pool is not a noddys water anymore.

yes it has its moments when the fish seem to prefer dry land but all lakes have those moments.
