Over the years I have had a few sets, but which do you consider the best make ?

Thanks

IMHO Forces Goretex beats all the angling branded stuff hands down.

I have 2 different US army goretex jackets and can't rate them highly enough after going through the usual brands. Wychwood fly anglers set was the best of them but not a patch on the Army stuff.

avoid Shimano Tribal - very warm until it rains - might as well have a paper jacket at this point!!

Ha ha, been at the pickled eggs a little too much have we? pig

What type and size do you have sir?
One of mine is a Large/Long (And in the US sizes that is BIG!) that swamps me at 6ft 12 1/2 stone so I use it only for winter Piking with 2 thick fleeces underneath, might be persuaded to swap for one that fits better?

I've had a Sundridge Specimen Active for quite a number of years and it is still fully waterproof, I have reproffed it with nikwax once. It can feel a bit bulky but it is very warm and keeps me dry

really depends on your budget

avoid anything sold as fishing gear

look to shooting/hunting in the USA/Canada/Scandinavia for the best - but its not going to be cheap

i use Canadian Sportchief - its that old its in the 'original' realtree! - the one in the oak leaf type cammo

a friend just bought some Harkila - excellent

best thermal underwear is Woolpower (Scandinavian again) - merino wool but can be washed at 60 degrees because its used by their armed forces and has to be washed at these temps to kill bacteria etc

Goretex is always a 'problem'

its a 'membrane' sold by William Gore

some maunfactuers use it well but others badly

so simply because an item is Goretex does not mean its going to perform well

Pretty much as above really. If you can, avoid anything angling related as most of it is utter pants!

My waterproofs are climbing related and ridiculously expensive, however thats what i use them for in the main....

Fishing wise, i'd look into golf waterproofs of all things. Galvin Green
, goretex and a life time guarantee, they shouldnt let you down but if they do you'll get a new set foc and having run a proshop and seeing some of the abused stuff that gets returned i can assure you that guarantee is good lol It's pricey but the best!

Failing that surplus wise the dutch goretex is hard to beat for the price

Galvin Green stuff is very good granted, but when it's for fishing and you put the prices next to surplus Goretex it's a bit hard to swallow!

The Dutch forces gear does look quality and I've heard it's very hard wearing and reliable, but for some reason everything (At least everything I've tried!) seems to be made for people with unnaturally short arms and legs?
US army or air force is the best I've used.
