Which Line for weed?

Post by Floaters on Sat Aug 25, 2012 9:32 pm

I'm currently using 16lb Power Carp but looking to change my line to suit a clear weedy water.

Recommendations please guys?

Why change if you are confident with Power Carp? Personally GR60 has never let me down

I use GR60. It sinks well and isn't visible in the water

I'm going to be fishing a weedy water and was thinking about a green line blending in better. I have total confidence in Power carp as it's never let me down in the last 4 years and suited my needs perfectly but was worried it may stand out over weed - do you think I'm being over cautious?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Using a line for four years you will know all it's quirks (good and bad) and changing it on a new venue straight away will be another element you will need to get to know.

If after a few months you know your rigs are effective and in the right spots, then maybe Look to change.

I was using 15lb x-line on a very weedy water last season and it never let me down.

^^This.
By diameter it's as thick as other manufactures 15lb which is pretty much what i've found at the knot, their 15lb is ~22lb!
I remember last year getting a take and within seconds feeling the line seriously rubbing on a submerged branch for about a minute. I thought that I would lose it any second but i got the fish back even though 5ft of the line looked frayed to hell. The other benefit is it sinks like a brick.
The only downside is it doesn't cast particularly well and can go a bit wiry after a while.
I prefer the green over the clear (white) but saw no real difference in my catch rate.
